Tax planning

Taxes, planned
before the deadline.

Tax season records what already happened. We look ahead at the decisions that shape next year’s return, and share our notes with whoever prepares it.

The Grove approach

Timing is part
of the decision.

When you sell, when you withdraw, which account you draw from and how you give to charity can all change the tax that follows. Most of those choices are made long before anyone files a return.

Grove does not prepare tax returns. We plan the decisions, and we work alongside your CPA or tax preparer so that the plan and the filing agree.

What we look at

Where the work
goes in.

Four areas we cover in every tax planning conversation.

  • Income timing

Bonuses, business income and the year you stop working can sometimes be spread or shifted when you see them coming.

  • Withdrawal order

Which account to draw from first in retirement, and how that choice carries into later years.

  • Gains and losses

When to sell investments that have grown, and whether a loss can be put to use.

  • Giving

Ways to support the causes you care about that also fit the rest of your plan.

What you leave with

Clear outputs,
in writing.

  • A list of the tax-sensitive decisions in your year
  • Notes for your tax preparer
  • A calendar of the dates that matter to you
  • Questions to raise before year end

Questions we will ask

Come ready
to talk about.

  • Who prepares your return today?
  • Do you expect your income to rise or fall over the next few years?
  • Are you planning a large sale, gift or withdrawal?
  • Which accounts hold most of your savings?
